HC Deb 06 November 1919 vol 120 c1661
43. Major HILLS

asked the Minister of' Health whether there was a sufficiency of labour for building the houses contemplated under the Housing Act; and, if not, in what way he proposed to remedy the deficiency?

Dr. ADDISON

There is a shortage of building labour, and the progress of some housing schemes under the Housing Act is already being hampered thereby. I am in touch with the Ministry of Labour and with the Building Resettlement Committee of the Joint Industrial Council of the Building Trade, who are investigating posible means of remedying the deficiency.

Major HILLS

Can we expect an announcement of policy shortly?

Dr. ADDISON

I am doing everything I possibly can to press it on. The hon. Member knows how exceedingly difficult it is.
