HC Deb 05 November 1919 vol 120 c1468
9. Brigadier-General Sir HILL CHILD

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that the officers of the Indian Telegraph Department have petitioned for their pay to be raised owing to the increased cost of living; if so, what steps have been taken in the matter; and, seeing that the pay of the officers in the Indian Forest and Public Works Department has already been raised, will he explain why the officers of the Indian Telegraph Department did not have their pay raised at the same time?

Mr. MONTAGU

I have no knowledge of a petition from the officers of the Indian Telegraph Department praying for an increase in their pay; but steps are being taken to secure that the conditions of service in that Department are brought under review similarly to those of the other Indian Services. The date from which revised conditions would have effect will not be prejudiced by any delay that many occur in announcing them.
