HC Deb 22 May 1919 vol 116 cc569-70
70. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been drawn to an inquest held recently on a stillborn child by the Southwark coroner, when certain malpractices were disclosed over the burial certificate given by the midwife; and whether, in view of these disclosures, he proposes to recommend the alteration of the law in order to prevent the continuance of the practice of allowing midwives to give certificates for burial purposes?

Major ASTOR

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative-My right hon. Friend will consider the advisability of altering the law.
