HC Deb 22 May 1919 vol 116 c570
74. Sir R. COOPER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary if he is aware that the Soapmakers' Federation is offering German caustic potash 90-92 per cent. at the price of £100 to £105 per ton; whether a price exceeding £40 a ton renders this chemical impracticable for general consumption; and if he will say what effect the policy of aiding Germany to dispose of her produce at inflated prices will have on the value of the indemnity to be paid by her?

The DEPUTY-MINISTER of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)

A proposal on the lines suggested in the question is now being considered by the Board of Trade in conjunction with the Ministry, but no decision has been reached.
