HC Deb 15 May 1919 vol 115 c1754
43. Mr. RAMSDEN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the fact that unrestricted importation of manufactured wood goods of all kinds is prejudicing the position of manufacturers who, to meet the emergency, started manufacturing in this country on a large scale during the War and who now find themselves hard pressed by the decontrol of importation before they are able to readjust home conditions; and whether he will investigate the position of these British manufacturers?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

My hon. Friend is misinformed. There is no unrestricted importation of manufactured wood goods. The importation of manufactured wood goods is at present closely restricted. The case for relaxing these restrictions will shortly come before the Imports Consultative Council, to whom the representations contained in the hon. Member's question will be submitted.
