HC Deb 15 May 1919 vol 115 cc1753-4
41. Major BIRCHALL

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the large amount of time spent by manufacturers in filling up Government forms, Form Z 8, issued by the Industrial War Inquiries branch, can now be discontinued, and the necessary staff employed upon more useful work?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

During the period of industrial reconstruction, it is of great importance that the Government Departments concerned should be supplied with information as to the progress of reconstruction in the different industries and in the different districts. I hope, therefore, that the employers who have assisted the Board of Trade in its task of collecting such useful information will be so kind as to continue to furnish the particulars asked for in the Form Z 8 to which my hon. Friend refers. I do not feel that it is possible to dispense with this Return at present.
