HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 cc750-1
67. Mr. LEONARD LYLE

asked the President of the Board of Trade the principle upon which, presumably with the sanction of the Railway Commissioners, the Metropolitan Railway Company has applied the new augmentation of fares to the working of the railway from East and West Ham to its western termini?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I presume the hon. Gentleman refers to the Metropolitan District Railway Company. I am sending him a copy of a letter from that company on the point to which, I understand, his question relates.

Mr. LYLE

Would not a reduction of fares be more appropriate seeing that travellers are now packed like sardines instead of like human beings?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Would not that encourage more people to travel?
