HC Deb 06 May 1919 vol 115 c751
68. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Under-Secretary of State to the Air Ministry why the landing-place for commercial aeroplanes in the Humber district has been chosen at New Holland, on the opposite side of the river to Hull, and whether he will consider the early establishment of a commercial aerodrome on the north side of the Humber near to Hull?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Major-General Seely)

New Holland was selected as the aerodrome best suited in the neighbourhood of Hull for the combined needs of civil and military aviation. As civil aviation develops it is probable that its interests may require another site, and, if so, the Air Ministry will be very ready to reconsider the matter.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that that is half an hour from Hull across the river?

Major-General SEELY

Oh, yes; I am well aware of that; but it was the first available site, so we selected it. If at a later date it is desired to change, an officer of the Air Force will be sent to investigate.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Will this station be the aerodrome from which to fly across the North Sea?

Major-General SEELY

I cannot say that without notice.
