§ 1. Mr. ROBERT YOUNGasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any plans are being prepared for the post-graduate training of members of the Diplomatic Service, as suggested in the speech of the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on 31st July last?
§ Colonel Sir HAMAR GREENWOOD(Department of Oversea Trade): As the lion. Member will observe from the answer which I am about to give to another question put by him to-day, every effort is being made, by freeing the members of the Foreign Service from routine work, to give effect to the suggestions with regard to what the Noble Lord the Member for Hitchin described as their post-graduate training in the speech referred to. I may add that instructions were sent some time ago to His Majesty's representatives abroad, to the effect that all junior secretaries should undergo a period of training under the commercial secretaries.
