HC Deb 14 July 1919 vol 118 cc6-7
31. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Railway Executive Committee intend to pro vide any regular facilities this summer for the Continental traffic, and is it proposed to maintain the pre-war services or any of them from Dover, Folkestone, Newhaven, and Southampton; and can he make any general statement on the subject?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Regular facilities are being provided by the Railway Executive Committee this summer for Continental traffic via the ports in question, but whether these services will be up to the pre-war standard or not will depend upon the return of the railway company's vessels on Admiralty service and the requirements of the military authorities in the matter of the conveyance of soldiers on leave and demobilised men.
