HC Deb 14 July 1919 vol 118 c7
33. Mr. GILBERT

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Railway Executive Committee has made any special arrangements as regards granting special fares to one-day school-treat parties; if they grant return tickets at single fares to such parties; is there any limit as regards the numbers; is it limited to places within a special mileage limit; and are they prepared to grant the same facilities to parties composed of adults?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Reduced fares have been granted to recognised school excursions to the extent explained in the reply given on the 21st May to the hon. and gallant Member for the Melton Division, of which I am sending the hon. Gentleman a copy. The number of adults allowed to travel under these arrangements is one to every ten children, and, while no other conditions have been made by the Railway Executive Committes, it may not, of course, in all cases be practicable for a railway company to convey a particular number of persons to a particular place. I am not prepared to recommend that similar concessions should be granted to parties composed of adults.
