HC Deb 14 July 1919 vol 118 c6
30. Sir OWEN PHILIPS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that great inconvenience is caused to Chester traders by the delays which occur in the delivery of their goods, two to three weeks sometimes elapsing between the date of consignment to the time of delivery between London and Chester; and, if so, whether any steps can be taken to bring about an improvement in the facilities for delivering goods by rail to the traders in the city of Chester?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I was not aware of any cases in which two to three weeks have elapsed between the date of consignment and the date of delivery of goods sent between London and Chester, though I believe there have been difficulties in dealing with this as with other traffic. Steps are being taken to improve the position generally as far as possible.
