HC Deb 14 April 1919 vol 114 c2470
16. Lieutenant-Colonel GUINNESS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that great inconvenience is caused to the inhabitants of Newmarket and Bury St. Edmunds by the lack of any train down from London after 5.52 p.m.; and whether the Railway Executive Committee will make arrangements for such a train to run and for another special train to be run down to Newmarket and back from Newmarket on every race day?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I do not think that any representations with regard to the Newmarket train service have recently been made to my right hon. Friend, but I am bringing the hon. and gallant Gentleman's suggestions as to a down train later than the 5.52 p.m. to the notice of the Great Eastern Railway Company, and will let him know the result.

Lieutenant-Colonel GUINNESS

Will the hon. Gentleman also bring to his notice the necessity of further accommodation on race days?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

shook his head.

Lieutenant-Colonel GUINNESS

Am I to understand that the hon. Member shook his head because there is a shortage of rolling stock, or because of a conscientious objection to racing?

Mr. DEPUTY-SPEAKER

That is a matter for argument.
