Sir HENRY HARRISasked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the fact that shortage of rolling-stock will prevent a large number of workers from taking their usual holiday at Easter, he can hold out any hopes that greater facilities will be available in the course of the summer; and, if not, whether any plan can be devised which will secure to the people an opportunity of getting away to the country?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANThe hon. Gentleman may rely upon every effort being made by the railway companies to give travelling facilities to workers during the summer. It would, I may point out, reduce the difficulties experienced by the railway companies and add to the convenience of the travellers if arrangements could more generally be made, where possible, by employers for holidays to be taken by 2470 their workpeople at other times than during Easter or Whitsuntide week or the beginning of August.
