HC Deb 14 April 1919 vol 114 cc2470-1
7. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether the Commission of Inquiry into Industrial Life Assurance will include in its terms of reference the wages paid to agents; and whether a representative of the National Amalgamated Union of Life Assurance Workers will be given representation on the Committee?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply which I gave on 10th April to the question of the hon. Member for Aberdare.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

The reply on that occasion did not state whether a representative of the National Amalgamated Union of Life Assurance Workers would be included?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I am not prepared to add anything to that answer.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Can we have a straight answer. Are these people to be represented?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

The reply was that the question whether the scope of the inquiry should include the conditions of service of agents and collectors is receiving consideration, and the answer to another question was similar. It is not yet finally settled what are to be the terms of reference or how exactly the Committee will be composed.
