HC Deb 21 November 1918 vol 110 c3456
Mr. WATTS (by Private Notice)

asked the Food Controller whether, under the orders of his Department, hundreds of prime Scottish cattle are being killed weekly and sent south into England while the Scottish people are being fed on bad beef, mostly cows of the worst description, and whether the butchers' trade in Glasgow threatens to strike on this account?

Mr. PARKER

London has always been supplied with a considerable amount of meat from Scotland. The amount imported recently is actually less than the amount imported in normal times or at this time last year.

Mr. PRINGLE

Are they getting their share of the cows?

Mr. PARKER

There is no justification for the statement that the Scottish people are being fed on bad beef. The meat supplied in Scotland is of the same quality as is usually forthcoming at this season. As to the last part of the question, the Food Controller has no information.

Mr. PRINGLE

Is England given an equal share of the cows?

Mr. PARKER

Yes.
