HC Deb 12 November 1918 vol 110 c2476
26. Sir JOHN SPEAR

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if, on the declaration of peace, he will immediately release from military service all men who, prior to enlistment, were engaged in single-men businesses and also key men who are necessary for the re-establishment of ordinary business pursuits?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The scheme of demobilisation provides that special consideration shall be given to the claims for early release of those men who, prior to the war, were engaged in single-men businesses, or are key men who are necessary for the re-establishment of important trades or industries.

Sir J. SPEAR

Would that apply to ploughman and skilled men generally in agriculture?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I will look into that question. I am not quite sure of my facts, but I will put forward the representation.
