§ 98. Mr. RENDALLasked the Pensions Minister whether Private A. Carnock, No. 15321, 10th Gloucestershire Regiment, after 2487 two years' service abroad, was discharged suffering from tuberculosis; that with a wife and nine children he was pensioned at 50 per cent. only; that his daughter contracted tuberculosis from the father; that, whilst the father is now being given treatment away from home, the daughter has died and the local war pensions committee has refused the wife's application for the £2 10s. funeral fee; and will he at once deal with this matter?
§ Sir A. GRIFFITH-BOSCAWENPrivate Carnock was invalided from the Army with tubercle of the lung, the disablement being assessed at 50 per cent. He was last medically boarded in December, when the disablement was assessed at 30 per cent., but while he is under treatment and away from home he receives the equivalent of full pension and children's allowances as though he were totally disabled. The grant of the £2 10s. funeral fee is limited to the children of serving soldiers, and the local committee has no authority to extend the grant to the child of a discharged man.
