99. Mr. NUGENTasked the Pensions Minister, whether his attention has been called to the case of Mrs. Maguire, of Shercock, county Down, mother of Private Thomas Maguire, No. 31513, and is he aware that previous to joining the Army Thomas Maguire was in receipt of 13s. 9d. per week as a rural postman and earned from 10s. to 20s. per week in repairs to bicycles; whether he is aware that the allowance of 9s. 6d. per week was granted as a dependant's allowance to Mrs. Maguire, but that no amount has been paid, and that a letter, dated 30th October, 1918, No. 321 and 2,784, D. 2, Accts. 3, from the War Office, St. Martin's Place, London, intimated that she had got the right to appeal, but not stating what amount or whether any sum would be paid her; and will he see that the case gets attention, and this woman gets a separation allowance based on the full income of Private Maguire previous to his joining the Army?
§ Mr. FORSTERI think the hon. Member will find, on further inquiry, that an allowance of 5s. a week is being paid. The local pension authorities are not agreed as to the actual amount of dependency. Mrs. Maguire has been told by the War Office how to appeal, but has not yet done so.
§ Mr. FORSTERNo, I do not think I have.
