HC Deb 11 March 1918 vol 104 c12
37. Major NEWMAN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that a central food committee has for some months past been established by the Irish Republic Party at 6, Harcourt Street, Dublin; whether the efforts of this committee, as explained by them in a circular issued in November last, is to prevent the export of food from Ireland; has he information that points to an imminent shortage of food in Ireland; and, if so, will Ireland be immediately placed on a card system of rations similar to that now imposed on London and the Home counties?

Mr. CLYNES

I have no official information as to the points raised in the first two parts of the question. The answer to the third part is in the negative; the fourth part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Major NEWMAN

Would it be possible for the Ministry of Food to send round to this address and get one of those circulars or, if necessary. I can send him one, if he likes to see it?

Mr. CLYNES

That might be paying undue attention to the people referred to in the question.
