§ 36. Major NEWMANasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether his attention has been called to the prices charged by some resturants for rationed meat, meatless, and so-called offal dishes since the introduction of the food-card system; and whether, to protect the public, he will add to his staff a controller of restaurant charges armed with appropriate powers?
§ Mr. CLYNESNo representations have been received by the Food Controller to the effect indicated in the first part of the question. The control of restaurants has been entrusted to the recently-appointed 12 Food Survey Board, who will consider and report from time to time what action, if any, is proper to be taken in respect of restaurant charges.
§ Mr. W. THORNEMay I ask whether a large number of the restaurant-keepers grab all the fish they can, and that, so far as the East End people are concerned they can get none at all?
§ Mr. CLYNESAny condition of things such as that is within the control of the Food Survey Board.
