HC Deb 21 June 1918 vol 107 cc646-7
Mr. CURRIE

asked the Minister of National Service who are the members of the Advisory Committee representing the accounting profession in connection with the enlistment of accountants for Government service; whether the Committee in any way supersedes the ordinary tribunals with regard to granting of exemptions; and by what date its work is expected to materialise in securing for Government Departments the service of a reasonable further number of qualified accountants?

Mr. PRATT (Lord of the Treasury)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. As my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of National Service stated yesterday, it is proposed immediately to set up an Advisory Committee to deal with the question of professional accountants, but the names and terms of reference have not yet been definitely settled.

Mr. WATT

Is it not the case that these Committees which either engage or turn down accountants consist entirely of the hon. Member for Leith Burghs (Mr. Currie), and are not these questions put down in order to mislead?
