68. Mr. COOTEasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether teachers of schools amalgamated in Ireland with other schools are guaranteed their salaries and emoluments, on joining other schools, as enjoyed toy them at the time of such amalgamation; and, if so, whether they are obliged to sign No. 1 agreement with their new managers, which leaves them open to dismissal on three months' notice without appeal, or agreement No. 3, which gives them the right of appeal to the Education Commissioners?
§ Mr. SAMUELSThe teachers of national schools amalgamated with other national schools are guaranteed continuance of salaries and emoluments on the same conditions as they had previously enjoyed. The Commissioners of National Education have decided that where the managers and teachers disagree as to which of the four official forms of agreement is appropriate the form used prior to amalgamation should apply. Form of agreement No. 3 provides for a referee. It does not, however, give the teacher any right of appeal to the Commissioners of National Education not enjoyed under form of agreement No. 1 unless the Commissioners themselves are named as referees.
