§ Mr. ALDEN (by Private Notice)
asked the Minister of Munitions whether (1) it is a fact that between 300 and 400 men at the Royal Gunpowder Factory, Waltham: Abbey, have received notice of discharge as from the 29th June; (2) whether he will state the reason for discharging so large a number of men; (3) whether he can also state how many of these men would in the natural order of things be called up; (4) how many are above the age at which men are now required for the Army; (5) what steps he proposes to take to secure employment for all those who are thrown out of work?
§ The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)
It is a fact that a number of men have received notice of discharge from Waltham Abbey, but as I only received my hon. Friend's question at eleven o'clock this morning I am not in a position to answer as to details. I shall be glad if he will repeat his question on Wednesday.
