HC Deb 18 July 1918 vol 108 cc1237-8
92. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Minister of National Service whether the member of the Faculty of Advocates in Scotland who was recently appointed Sheriff-principal of Renfrewshire, with a salary of £800 a year and permission to continue his own practice at the Bar, is head of the National Service Department in Scotland; and, if so, will he say what salary he draws for such work?

Sir A. GEDDES

The Director of National Service, Scottish Region, has recently been appointed Sheriff-principal of Renfrew and Bute. He is not undertaking any practice at the Bar so long as he continues to act for the National Service Department. His salary as director is £1,000 per annum—a sum appreciably smaller than he would earn if he continued his practice. The gentleman in question has devoted his time since the outbreak of war to public duties, both military and civil, at great personal sacrifice.
