§ 7. Mr. ELLIS DAVIESasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that in the stone quarries between Calais and Boulogne, and now worked by the Labour Corps, one of His Majesty's inspectors of quarries acts as clerk and a quarry official as stonebreaker, whilst the management include a dentist, a draper, and a commercial traveller; and whether, with a view to securing greater efficiency, he will have an inquiry made?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONThe quarries in question are not worked by the Labour Corps, but by the Director of Roads, 1409 under the Director-General of Transportation, and the organisation is considered to be most efficient. My hon. Friend's information is not, I understand, accurate in all particulars, and if he will give me the details on which it is based, I will communicate further with him. The management of the quarries does not include a dentist, a draper, or a commercial traveller.
§ 8. Mr. DAVIESasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the dissatisfaction with the output of the stone quarries between Calais and Boulogne, it is proposed to have an inquiry into the management and method of working?
§ Mr. MACPHERSONMy information does not agree with that of my hon. Friend. The output of these quarries is considered quite satisfactory, and the last part of the question does not, therefore, arise.
