HC Deb 29 January 1918 vol 101 c1408
6. Mr. ROBINSON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that the Brecknocks Territorial Force volunteered for foreign service at the earliest possible moment, were promised service in France, dispatched to Aden, and were actually engaged with considerable loss before some battalions which will get the medal were in action, he will recommend that the 1914 medal be granted to this battalion?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Macpherson)

The 1914 Star is a distinctive decoration which His Majesty the King has been pleased to grant to those who served in France or Belgium, under the command of Lord French, during the earlier phase of the War in 1914. It is in no sense a commemorative war medal to be awarded to all those who have been engaged in operations against the enemy in other theatres of war. These latter services will receive suitable recognition in due course.
