HC Deb 27 February 1918 vol 103 cc1376-7
47. Mr. BILLING

asked the Prime Minister whether, having regard to the desirability of encouraging public investments in war funds, he will consult with the Minister of Propaganda as to the best means of attaining this result; and, if so, whether he will make a statement to the House as to the course to be adopted?

Mr. BONAR LAW

The suggestion in the question is being considered, but the measures for publicity now being carried out under the auspices of the War Savings Committee are, in ray opinion, so good from the point of view both of effectiveness and of economy that I hardly think that any change will be useful.

Mr. BILLING

Has the right hon. Gentleman considered the advisability of publishing a list of the investments made by members of His Majesty's Government and the War Cabinet to encourage investments by the public?

Mr. BONAR LAW

That hardly arises out of the question. I do not think that the members would object, but I should consider that it would be a very improper thing to do, because it would immediately make a differentiation in their private means and by no means be an indication of their public spirit.
