HC Deb 07 August 1918 vol 109 c1322
2. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for India if he can now state the result of his inquiry as to whether the recommendations of the local governments in India regarding the increase of pay of the Indian police, both British and Indian, have been received; and what steps have been taken by the Government of India in the matter?

Mr. MONTAGU

I have ascertained that the Government of India have recently addressed local governments in a comprehensive letter, and have invited their recommendations, both as to the recruitment and the pay of the police services, and have asked for expeditious treatment of the matter.
