HC Deb 07 August 1918 vol 109 cc1321-2
1. Colonel YATE

asked the Secretary of State for India if he can now state the result of the reference to the Law Officers of the Crown as to the grant to officers of the Royal Indian Marine of commissions bearing the King's sign manual similar to the commissions issued to the officers of the Royal Naval Reserve and Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, to the officers of which the status of the officers of the Royal Indian Marine is senior in equivalent relative rank?

The SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Montagu)

I have not yet received through the official channel the opinion of the Law Officers of the Crown, but I understand that there is no legal obstacle to the grant of King's commissions to officers of the Royal Indian Marine. Should this prove to be the case, I propose to proceed with the matter without delay.
