HC Deb 24 April 1918 vol 105 c987
44. Lord H. CAVENDISH-BENTINCK

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that inconvenience is caused to the general public by the practice followed by the retail butchers of only opening their shops for a few hours each day; and whether he will come to an arrangement with the butchers whereby they will keep their shops open for a longer time each day?

Mr. CLYNES

Under the Meat Rationing Order, 1918, local food committees may, subject to the observance of the General Early Closing Order and of local Early Closing Orders, give directions as to the times at which a retailer shall sell meat. The attention of Food Control Committees is being drawn to their power in this respect.
