HC Deb 23 April 1918 vol 105 cc837-8
19. Colonel ASHLEY

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether his Department has refused the claim of the wife of Private Carlile, No. 20,669, 3rd Battalion, Royal Defence Corps, residing at 22, Gorse Road, Blackpool, for a separation allowance in respect of her son, William Carlile, born on the 9th June, 1900, on the ground that the claim was not made until more than twelve months after such allowance was issuable; that the reason why the claim was not made earlier was that, in common with other soldiers' wives, Mrs. Carlile was in ignorance of the changed Regulations; and whether, in view of these circumstances and the additional fact that the War Office has recovered from this soldier's pay an overpayment made to him in respect of his billeting allowance two years after the overpayment was made, he will cause the War Office's decision to be reconsidered with a view to separation allowance in respect of the son being issued?

Mr. FORSTER

I am afraid I cannot settle this case without making further inquiries. I will communicate with my hon. and gallant Friend.
