HC Deb 23 April 1918 vol 105 c837
7. Colonel ASHLEY

asked the Under-secretary of State for War whether he is aware that Mr. E. H. Vant, formerly an officer in the Lincoln Regiment, was taken seriously ill with rheumatic fever on the 8th of May, 1917, some months after he was gazetted out of the Service; that the War Office authorised his admission to the Royal Herbert Hospital; that, by reason of neglect or carelessness on the part of an official of the Department concerned, this authorisation never reached him: and that in consequence he had to pay for his treatment, costing £ 73, out of his own pocket; and whether, in view of the circumstances, he will take steps to refund this sum to Mr. Vant?

Mr. FORSTER

I have no knowledge of this matter, but will have inquiry made. Perhaps my hon. and gallant Friend will give me any information at his disposal which is not on official record?
