Mr. KENNEDY JONES (by Private Notice)asked the Prime Minister whether the Government, as representing the House of Commons, intend to send a message to Sir Douglas Haig, congratulating him and the officers and men of His Majesty's Forces on their splendid achievement in the most recent offensive on the Western Front?
§ Mr. BONAR LAWI received notice, by telephone, of my hon. Friend's intention to put this question. I understood the meaning to be that the House should pass a. Resolution, which I should not have thought was wise, in the circumstances. There is, however, very little doubt that the Cabinet will send such a message as is suggested, though I really am quite sure that neither Sir Douglas Haig nor Sir Julian Byng need Resolutions to assure them of the admiration of this country for their gallant deeds. Mr. HOGGE: Can my right hon. Friend say whether the Prime Minister is being kept informed of these happenings on the " impenetrable barrier of the Western Front?
