HC Deb 22 November 1917 vol 99 c1363
Mr. KENNEDY JONES (by Private Notice)

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government, as representing the House of Commons, intend to send a message to Sir Douglas Haig, congratulating him and the officers and men of His Majesty's Forces on their splendid achievement in the most recent offensive on the Western Front?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I received notice, by telephone, of my hon. Friend's intention to put this question. I understood the meaning to be that the House should pass a. Resolution, which I should not have thought was wise, in the circumstances. There is, however, very little doubt that the Cabinet will send such a message as is suggested, though I really am quite sure that neither Sir Douglas Haig nor Sir Julian Byng need Resolutions to assure them of the admiration of this country for their gallant deeds. Mr. HOGGE: Can my right hon. Friend say whether the Prime Minister is being kept informed of these happenings on the " impenetrable barrier of the Western Front?
