HC Deb 21 June 1917 vol 94 cc1942-3
89. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture what action his Department have taken to prevent the calling up for military service of Mr. Page, junior, of Boxted, near Colchester, who farms 75 acres and is a scientifically-trained fanner holding the double distinction of national diploma in dairying and diploma and silver medal of the British Dairy Farmers' Association; and, as Mr. Page is called up for 22nd June, will immediate action be taken in the matter?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of AGRICULTURE (Sir R. Winfrey)

The Board have already referred the case to the Essex County Agricultural Executive Committee, which has power to certify that the man in question should not be required to join the Colours. This the committee has declined to do, and the Board do not propose to interfere with that decision.
