HC Deb 19 June 1917 vol 94 c1606
44. Mr. HANCOCK

asked the Home Secretary whether he will inquire into the bona fides of the General Mining and Finance Corporation, Winchester House, City, E.G., seeing that one of its principals is Sir George Albu, a German, who was naturalised by us in 1908, knighted in 1910, but redeemed his German nationality in 1912, and was decorated by the Kaiser in 1913 for services rendered to Germany; and that 75 per cent, of the shareholders are Germans?

Mr. ROBERTS

My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. An investigation was made some time ago into the business in this country of the General Mining and Finance Corporation, which is incorporated in South Africa, and the company appeared to have complied with the law. I am ordering a further inspection to be made. My information as to the shareholding in the company is not in accord with that stated in the question.
