HC Deb 19 June 1917 vol 94 cc1605-6
43. Mr. HOGGE

asked the First Com missioner of Works why the gate leading into Holyrood Park from Arthur Street, Edinburgh, is kept locked, so depriving many residents in one of the most densely crowded districts of the city of access to the park; and whether it can be opened for several hours each day, especially during the summer and autumn months?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER Of WORKS (Sir Alfred Mond)

The gate was closed because provision for attending to it could not be made owing to shortage of staff during the War. I hope, however, to arrange for it to be opened as from "to-day" for several hours each day, with the help of assistance in the patrolling of Holyrood Park readily proffered by the Women Patrols Committee for Edinburgh.
