HC Deb 18 June 1917 vol 94 c1410
67. Mr. DUNCAN MILLAR

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board whether his attention has been directed to the statement made by the chairman of the London Appeal Tribunal as to the circumstances in which exemption might be granted to applicants who were carrying on one-man businesses; and whether, in the event of the Local Government Board adopting the views expressed by the chairman, steps will be taken to have the statement circulated throughout the country, looking to the interest attaching to this question at the present moment?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Hayes Fisher)

A number of decisions by the Central Tribunal are being circulated to tribunals to-day. These decisions include that in the case of a sole proprietor of a business, as to which there appears to have been some misapprehension. I hope that the circulation of this decision, added to the statement made by the chairman of the London Appeal Tribunal, will remove this misapprehension.

Mr. CHANCELLOR

Will that be circulated to all the tribunals?

Mr. MILLAR

Will it be circulated to all the chairmen of London tribunals?

Mr. FISHER

The effect of it will be brought to their notice.
