HC Deb 18 June 1917 vol 94 cc1410-1
68. Mr. SNOWDEN

asked the Secretary to the Local Government Board whether a person who was in a certified trade at the time of the passing of the Military Service Act and a person for whom an exemption on business grounds has been given on the application of the employer is, in the event of the exemption being cancelled, entitled to make an application to the tribunal for exemption on domestic 'or conscientious grounds though such application has not been previously sent in?

Mr. FISHER

A man who has held a valid certificate of exemption is entitled to apply for a renewal of the exemption on any of the grounds specified in the Regulations or Instructions, as the case may be, provided the application is made within the period allowed by the Regulations or Instructions.

Mr. SNOWDEN

That does not answer my question. I tried to put a specific question, to which the right hon. Gentleman does not reply. May I put it like this? In the case of a man having an exemption given on the application of his employer by a tribunal, which lapses, may that person send in an application on domestic or conscientious or business grounds, if no previous personal application has been made.

Mr. FISHER

I should like notice of that question.

Mr. SNOWDEN

It is on the Paper.

Mr. FISHER

I think the answer is in the affirmative, but I will verify it.
