HC Deb 14 June 1917 vol 94 cc1104-5
33. Mr. MILLAR

asked the Minister of Munitions when the accounts showing the revenue and expenditure of the Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic) will be published?

Mr. KELLAWAY

If the hon. Member refers to the accounts relating to the Board's purchase undertakings, I must refer him to the statement made in the Debate of May 8th last by my right hon. Friend the Chief Secretary for Ireland. If the hon. Member has in mind the general accounts of the Board, I can only refer him to the answer given to the hon. Member for Rutland on 14th March last. It is hoped to publish the accounts relating to Gretna and Invergordon by the end of July.

Mr. MILLAR

Was not an undertaking given in the House that the full accounts of the Board would be published at an early date?

Mr. KELLAWAY

The general accounts of the Board will appear in the Appropriation Account. The accounts of the Trading Department, to be of any value, must represent a year s trading. These are the accounts I have referred to in the last part of my answer.

Mr. PRINGLE

Will these accounts show the prices paid for public-houses?

Mr. KELLAWAY

As soon as questions at issue have been determined, which have to go on appeal before the Commission, they will be shown.

Mr. PRINGLE

Are we to understand that the Defence of the Realm Commission have a voice in the prices to be paid?

Mr. KELLAWAY

Where there are questions at issue they are referred to the Commission.

Mr. J. M. HENDERSON

Is it not a fact that the Treasury have gone behind the Commission and paid a larger sum?

Mr. KELLAWAY

I have no information to that effect.

Mr. SPEAKER

We are getting a long way from the question on the Paper.
