HC Deb 13 June 1917 vol 94 cc928-9
34. Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

asked what is now estimated to be the addition to the area of land under the plough in each of the three kingdoms this year compared with last year?

Sir R. WINFREY

The estimated increase in land under the plough in England and Wales in 1917 as compared with 1916 is 300,000 acres. For information as to Scotland and Ireland, I will refer my right hon. Friend to the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Department of Agriculture for Ireland.

Mr. BILLING

Can he say what proportional increase that represents?

Sir R. WINFREY

I am afraid I cannot.
