HC Deb 06 July 1917 vol 95 c1481
24. Mr. HOGGE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War under what condition the girls in the Boulogne unit of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps live; what conditions of discipline are imposed; whether they are forbidden to speak to officers even if the officer is a relative; whether the same restriction applies to girls and the private soldier; and whether he is prepared to alter the conditions of service so that the girls may have the same liberty as all other girls employed in Government offices at home?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The women of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps are accommodated in hostels under the superintendence of administrators of the corps. The conditions under which they serve are specified in the enrolment form, a copy of which I shall be pleased to send my hon. Friend. Standing orders for the corps are in course of preparation and the points raised by my hon. Friend in the latter part of his question will receive careful consideration.

Mr. HOGGE

Will the hon. Gentleman take steps to see that these girls have the same kind of freedom as the girls employed by the War Office?

Mr. MACPHERSON

As my hon. Friend knows the conditions are very different over there, but I will take pains to see that it is represented to the proper authorities.
