HC Deb 18 October 1916 vol 86 c551
59. Mr. KING

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has received any communication or assurances from the Rhodes Trustees concerning the Rhodes Estate Bill now before Parliament; and whether the Rhodes Trustees have given any undertaking to establish scholarships for Indians within a definite time if the Bill passes?

Mr. C. ROBERTS (Comptroller of the Household)

The Secretary of State recently brought the claims of Indians to the notice of the Rhodes Trustees, and while he is hopeful that these will be favourably considered, he has not asked for, or received, assurances of the nature described.
