HC Deb 18 October 1916 vol 86 c551
52. Major CHAPPLE

asked the Prime Minister whether he will set up a Committee to inquire into the State control of the railways with a view to their acquisition after the War, in order that by reducing or abolishing the cost of duplication, overlapping, administration, and advertising cheaper transport may be made available in the post-war development of our trade, commerce, and industries?

Mr. PRETYMAN

The Prime Minister has asked me to reply to this question. The question of the relation between the State and the railways after the War is not being overlooked, and the hon. Member's suggestion will be borne in mind.
