HC Deb 09 May 1916 vol 82 c457
Sir NORVAL HELME

(by Private Notice) asked the President of the Board of Trade when the next Proclamation prohibiting the importation of certain articles will take effect, and what will it include?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

A list of the articles which it was proposed should shortly be prohibited was communicated to the House on 3rd May. After further consideration we have found ourselves unable to include animal ivory and motor tyres in this list. Imported animal ivory occupies a space which is very small in proportion to its value, and as regards motor tyres there are certain considerations affecting the arrangements made with the rubber importers of the U.S.A. which have led me to the conclusion that this proposal should be abandoned. The importation of the articles included in the list will be prohibited as from 12th May.
