HC Deb 03 May 1916 vol 82 cc25-6
34. Mr. NEEDHAM

asked the President of the Board of Trade when he proposes to issue such additional prohibition orders so that it will be impossible to import commodites unless they are necessary either for war purposes or for essential trades?

Mr. PRETYMAN

It is proposed in a few days to issue a further list of articles, the import of which is to be prohibited in order to secure additional tonnage space for essential needs. A list of the articles proposed to be included in the Proclamation will be printed in the OFFICIAL REPORT. [See Written Answers.]

Mr. NEEDHAM

Has the hon. Gentleman adopted the policy of excluding any articles which are not necessary or essential for the trade of this country?

Mr. PRETYMAN

That is a matter of opinion. It is the point of the Bill.
