THORNEasked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the report of the directors of Eastmans, Limited, stating that the meats released by the Board of Trade for civilian requirements were sold at the highest wholesale prices on record; whether in May last Mr. Mackenzie, one of his Advisory Committee, stated in the public Press that surplus New Zealand imported meat would be sold to the public at a small percentage over cost, insurance, and freight; whether this promise had been broken both in letter and spirit; and whether he will now consider the advisability of adding to his Advisory Committee a retail butcher and a working-class representative connected with the meat trade?
