HC Deb 16 March 1916 vol 80 cc2246-7
32. Mr. GINNELL

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the acting captain of the "Lusitania" on her last voyage was correct in assuring American citizens, who inquired before going on board, that the British Admiralty had guaranteed the safety of the vessel on that voyage?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Dr. Macnamara)

No such guarantee was given by the British Admiralty.

Mr. GINNELL

Then the captain's assurance was incorrect?

Dr. MACNAMARA

About that I cannot say anything.
