HC Deb 01 June 1916 vol 82 cc2912-3
111. Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether officers and men training at the grenade school, or schools, in Scotland receive any training in the use of trench mortars?

Mr. TENNANT

No instruction in use of trench mortars is given in grenade schools.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

Is there any instruction saying that the village of Trum has the only school in Scotland in which instruction in the art of using trench mortars is supposed to be given?

Mr. TENNANT

I wish the hon. Gentleman would put down a question as to what instruction is given in Scotland. I would then inform him. He is constantly raising this point on a supplementary question, but never has a substantive question upon it. I have no information in regard to it.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

Will the right hon. Gentleman for his own information call for a report as to how many trench mortars there are for the purpose of instruction in Scotland, and how many officers there are qualified to give instruction?

Mr. TENNANT

If my hon. Friend asks me to do that, certainly I will.
