HC Deb 06 January 1916 vol 77 c1092
41. Mr. WING

asked the President of the Local Government Board if he will grant temporary powers to boards of guardians to supplement old age pensions in cases of great necessity, without disqualifying in consequence old age pensioners; and, if unable to give boards of guardians such temporary powers, will he introduce a measure whereby pension committees may increase such pensions to 7s. 6d. per week?

Mr. McKENNA

Legislation would be required to give effect to the suggestion contained in the first part of the question, and I am considering whether any steps should be taken in this direction.
